I wanted to kill him, but I didn’t have the strength or power to do so. I had never felt like this before. Never before or since Sarah. And even with her, it had taken dating for three months before the urge to kill her had grown ravenous inside me. This was a whole new level of fucked up. I’d only known Caleb for forty-eight hours, and he was a man for fuck’s sake, besides being a witch too.

I shouldn’t have been feeling anything for him. But the hatred coursing through my veins was apparent. And I knew it wasn’t my natural hatred towards witches. It was my curse playing up.

Was I falling for the witch? How the fuck could that be?

I couldn’t even begin to process what those repercussions would be if I was truly falling for him. There was no fooling around with my curse, and my killer instinct had taken over my entire body.

But I needed him. Until he mended my frozen heart, there was nothing that I could—or wanted—to do.

There was no space for error on this mission until I got my end of the bargain. But it seemed I was getting more than that. When the witch reflected my hatred back to me, all I could feel was the shame and the guilt of being like this. An assassin. I had inadvertently become what I hated. My job. A killer of everything that was good and gracious in this world. And boy did Caleb feel like both those things right at that moment.

Caleb kept true to his word and didn’t let me go. Suppressing any protest with his mouth, protecting me from myself. That felt better than I cared to admit. I’d never experienced anything like this before Sarah. No, scratch that. I’d never felt anything like this ever. Resisting him was an impossible feat, but my deadly instincts were an uncontrollable force. Had he not had the powers he did, he’d be dead already, and I would be none the wiser. But the more I stayed under his control, the more I realized I was in deep trouble.

I rested my hands on his upper body and massaged his torso before moving them to his back. Everywhere I touched seemed to blaze with passion into him, and his kisses became more intense. His tongue wilder in my mouth. His moans rowdier.

Hopefully, he’d remember we were still hiding from a dangerous witch.

It wasn’t just my hands that roamed freely on his body. His also explored mine. From what I understood about his powers, as long as we were in constant contact, I would be fine, and I wouldn’t be able to attack him. As long as his lips stayed locked with mine, we’d be fine. It wasn’t a terrible situation to be in. Minus my killer instinct, of course.

I tried not to think about the fact that the kisses and the touches were coming from a man. I didn’t need to think about that right now or the implications because we were in a dangerous position as it was.
